3 Ways To Enjoy The Journey More
We’ve all been there; hoping that you achieve your goals as soon as possible to avoid any more obstacles and other road blocks.
Sometimes the journey toward achievement feels so frustrating that it makes you wonder why you even set that certain goal for yourself in the first place, because it seems to add more stress to your life than joy and happiness.
However, even if the journey might not always be what we want it to be, it still plays a big role on how fulfilled and happy you’ll feel after you’ve achieved your goal.
That’s why it’s necessary to find out how to make your journey more pleasant so that you won’t quit!
1. Create sub-goals
Dividing your main goal into sub-goals will do 2 things:
First, it will help with lowering the stress that you might experience. Since it reduces the size of the goal to a smaller one, you’ll feel like the goal is much more attainable.
Secondly, when you create a sub-goal, it’ll make you feel more competent, because you won’t perceive the sub-goal as big and as difficult than when you wouldn’t create sub-goals.
So in sum, small wins make the journey much easier to go through and help you to be more efficient to get to your destination.
2. Practice gratitude
Nothing that lasts happens overnight.
Yes, patience is hard, but at the same time it’s also incredibly powerful, because it makes you appreciate what you already have. Give yourself credit for what you’ve already accomplished.
Nobody ever feels drained and tired at the beginning of the journey. This only happens when you’ve faced obstacles, conquered them and face another one!
So don’t be too hard on yourself, stay focused and you’ll get where you want to be when you’re ready for it.
3. Share what you learn
Most of the time the goal requires of you that you need to learn something new or that you need to acquire a new skill.
The process of learning something that you’ve never done before can be quite frustrating and it can also demotivating. One way to make this process more pleasant is to share the knowledge that you learn with others.
This will help you feel more confident and competent.
When you share information with someone else about something they don’t know a thing about they often see you as the expert on the topic which reinforces the feelings of self-competency.
These ‘feelings of expertise’ should fuel your motivation to proceed with your journey and make the best out of it, because you now feel like you’re actually doing something valuable.
In sum, there are many more ways than the ones just mentioned in this article to make the journey that you’ve embarked on more pleasant. However, the mentioned points will hopefully remind you that your journey is a blessing.
Looking at these things in a positive way hopefully will even shift your mindset from ‘please let me achieve this goal ASAP’ into ‘this journey is what it takes to achieve the goal’.
What you learn during the journey and how you transform into the person you need to be is in 99% of the cases more valuable than actually achieving the goal.
